MICE Industry

MICE Industry

The MICE industry is comprised of meetings, incentive travel, conventions, and exhibitions. With such diversified and integrated elements, the MICE industry can promote international recognition of Taiwan, its industries, and city destination marketing. Moreover, the MICE Industry can drive such peripherally related industries as catering, accommodation, and tourism. Thus, this will generate considerable output value and employment.

MICE Facilities That Meet International Standards

Taiwan has actively worked to build facilities that specifically cater to MICE programs. Currently serving northern Taiwan are the Taipei World Trade Center Exhibition Hall, the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center Hall 1 and Hall 2, whereupon total exhibition space in Taipei exceeds 5,000 booths. For the southern part of the island, there are the Kaohsiung Exhibition Center and Tainan Exhibition Center. In addition, the Taiwan government plans to build exhibition and convention centers in Taoyuan and Taichung, strengthening Taiwan's MICE industry and ensuring a broader selection of venue choices for meetings, incentive tours, conventions, and exhibitions.

Taiwan is globally renowned for its highly-developed 3C industry. Needless to say, the integration of social media and technologies such as APPs, QR-Codes, Facebook, RFID, and free-of-charge Wi-Fi have been applied to MICE activities, offering advanced, convenient, and real-time services to MICE visitors. Aside from those hardware advantages, international business travelers to Taiwan will also be highly impressed by Taiwanese people’s hospitality, superior efficiency, and professional services.

International Conventions/Meetings

Taiwan has been in a global leading position for its research quality in medicine, information technology, and science sectors, plus maintains close interactions with related international associations and societies. This helps make Taiwan both a professional and mature environment for international conferences.

Abundant Practical Experience

Highly Competitive Industries

Taiwan is highly regarded for its plentiful professionals and experts, technology, and R&D strength in various sectors, plus the research level of certain academic fields such as IT and medicine are recognized to be higher than its neighbors in Asia. In addition, Taiwan’s IT and communication, optoelectronics, semi-conductor, and bicycle industries are greatly competitive worldwide with comprehensive industrial clusters formed locally for those industries. All these advantages serve as strong support for Taiwan’s developing MICE industry.

Traffic Convenience

Located along the southeast coast of the Asian Continent at the western edge of the Pacific Ocean and right in the center of the East-Asian island arc, Taiwan holds a key position for transport and trade in the Asia-Pacific region. There are international airports in northern, central, and southern Taiwan, while 59 major airlines provide services here. Taiwan offers a convenient connection to the world with a total of 5,000 flights to 115 different cities weekly and including 828 flights to 54 cities in China.

Taiwan's mass transportation is even more convenient. Metropolitan rapid transit systems provide great expedience and comfort for two of Taiwan's largest cities, Taipei and Kaohsiung. Travel time from north to south takes only 96 minutes by Taiwan high-speed rail. These make it possible for people coming for short-term business trips to not only complete their business efficiently without worry much about traffic, it also leaves time for tourism, shopping, and cuisine. Regularly increasing international flights and routes are a boon for those planning MICE activities in Taiwan.

Fabulous Tourism Resources

Aside from outstanding MICE facilities, software, and workforce, Taiwan is also rich in tourism resources such as geographic wonders, astonishing natural landscapes, and beautiful coastal scenery. Matched with Taiwanese cuisine, hospitality, and enthusiasm, these all add up as great incentives to international business people for visiting Taiwan for MICE activities.

Professional Exhibitions

According to the UFI report on The Trade Fair Industry in Asia, there are five UFI-sanctioned exhibition halls in Taiwan. 89 exhibitions were recorded, and Taiwan ranked 6th in Asia for total exhibition space sold (716,250 square meters). The Kaohsiung Exhibition Center was opened in 2014 with around 1,100 booths available. The ocean-side Center has enabled the growth of three major international trade shows to their largest size ever, namely Fastener Taiwan 2014, Taiwan Int’l Boat Show, and Kaohsiung Food Show. The opening of the Kaohsiung Exhibition Center significantly benefits Taiwan by expanding exhibition capacity as a whole. Furthermore, advanced IT and communication technologies, plus mature industrial clusters will strengthen Taiwan’s global competitiveness.

Diversified Professional Trade Shows Lead to Endless Business Opportunities

The solid and advanced industry base of Taiwan results in over 80 annual professional exhibitions representing sectors ranging from IT/electronics, machinery, bicycles, automobiles, sports, food, stationery, and giftware, to medicine, healthcare, and others. Many become world known exhibitions such as Computex Taipei, which ranks number two in the world, and the very popular Taipei Cycle Show. UFI's report shows that Taiwan’s average exhibition space is the second largest among Asia-Pacific countries. There are more than 20 Taiwan PEOs capable of organizing large professional trade shows and, based on their successful experiences, they can assist customers with opening up global markets and matching ideal business opportunities.

Combining Advantages of Industrial Clusters

With convenient transportation around the island, buyers coming to Taiwan for procurement can visit various industrial clusters by Taiwan high-speed rail within minutes or a few hours. Industry clusters for IT and communication in the north, machine tools, woodworking machines, bicycle, and hand tools clusters in the center, and automobile parts/accessories, plastic processing machines, optoelectronics, yachts, and fasteners in the south are easily and quickly accessible in Taiwan.
