The auto industry has undergone revolutionary transformation from fuel and pistons, to batteries and electrified mobility. It is forecast that five to ten years from now, EV sales will either equal or outnumber those of gas-powered vehicles.
Taiwan is the forerunner of the ICT sector and the preeminent manufacturer of automotive components. With so much interest and investment in EVs around the globe, Taiwan has already had a number of technological marvels rallying under the EV banner, for instance, EMS giants TSMC, Foxconn, Pegatron and so on. Not only have they bolstered Taiwan's competitiveness in EV, but their reputation has attracted more cooperation from international auto makers and Tier one suppliers. This phenomenon speaks for itself when Tesla could have tapped any of Asian countries to source what it needs, but Taiwan stands out. The ongoing process of the shift from the engine-based to software-defined vehicles requires more automobile electronics. The trend therefore gives Taiwan a competitive advantage over others in terms of entering the EV supply chain.
